It is certainly hard not to love beautiful beaches! From spectacular
shimmering sands of all colours, ankle-rolling pebbly coasts all the way
to towering cliffs of cold hard stone, there is just so much excitement
and joy that can be gleaned from simply being around the coast. This goes doubly if you live somewhere particularly land-locked, you will be simply champing at the bit when the waters first come into view to finally set foot on the coast and soak in the sea air. But how well do you know beaches? These are 10 questions all about coastal formations of all shapes and sizes, hopefully, you can nail them all. I've added a hint for each if you feel you could do with a bit of extra help, just click the black bars to reveal, if you opt to ignore it then I wish you all the luck in the world!
HINT: Praia do Cassino Beach spans 157 miles from the city of Rio Grande in the state of Rio Grande do Sul all the way to the narrow water channel called the Chuí Stream that marks the border with Uruguay.
HINT: The beach is found in a region known as Shark Bay, 45 miles southeast of Denham. Cockles thrive in the area due to the high salinity of the waters keeping their predators at bay.
HINT: The Palm Jumeirah is host to a collection of homes and residences, it comprises long outstretching leaves from the central trunk to represent a palm, with a ring island around the outside to act as a breakwater. Using land Reclamation, the islands were completed somewhere between 2006-2009.
HINT: The glass beach is a collection of beautifully smoothed sea glass, unfortunately, a result of years of dumping garbage into the ocean. It is adjacent to MacKerricher State Park near Fort Bragg.
HINT: Located between Nova Scotia and Brunswick, the Bay of Fundy holds the title for largest tidal variation with a peak difference between low and high tide of 53 feet.
HINT: Fraser Island sits off the coast of Queensland in the Wide Bay–Burnett region north of Brisbane. Separated by the Great Sandy Strait, it is little more than 3/4s of a mile away from the mainland at its narrowest.
HINT: Raine Island, a coral cay on the outer edges of the Great Barrier Reef, brings in between 1 and 10 thousand Sea Turtles each year depending on conditions.
HINT: The black sands here are littered with chunks of ice from nearby glacier Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of the larger Vatnajökull.
HINT: This nation prides itself on its beaches and is well known as a tourist destination of choice for many Europeans. Some 578 beaches, including Playa Aguadulce, Playa de Las Vistas and Puerto Banus, hold the Blue Flag rank.
HINT: According to the Guinness World Records, the cliffs of Molokai near Umilehi Point are the tallest sea cliffs, descending some 1010m (3300ft) with an average inclination of more than 55°.
